Season's Greetings

It's that time of year when we begin to think of greeting cards more.  We don't just send Christmas cards this time of year, but we also sometimes send thanksgiving cards, or get well soon cards.  Your task is to 1) Decide an occasion to send a card.  2)  Come up with a creative verse for your card.  3) Do not automatically assume that Inklings will win.  ;)  I will be looking for creativity and humor.  The winning entry will be automatically sent to Hallmark company.  Just kidding, but seriously, I know you can write better cards than many of the ones out there!  :)

Halloween is coming - oh yes it is, and it will be here sooner than you think!  Ok, maybe I'm "rushing the seasons" but I'm really, really sick of all the hot weather we've been having this summer and just this past weekend we had some cooler weather so I'm getting excited for fall now!  Therefore, to humor me and help me feel like fall is indeed coming, our next Word Joust Game  will be a challenge to come up with an "unusual" Halloween costume.  You may just describe your costume, or you may write a poem or a song about it.  If you are creative enough and have nothing more to do than to actually make this costume, then do so and take a picture of yourself in it - or a member of your family - or even a neighbor that is willing - and post your picture with a description of what it is supposed to be - the weirder, the funnier, the better!

An Olympic Challenge!

Olympic Rings

For those who know me, it comes as no surprise that I may not watch much sports on TV, but I watch AS MUCH OLYMPICS AS POSSIBLE!

I LOVE the Olympics! Summer, Winter, doesn't matter. I watch ANYTHING from archery to weightlifting. My TV is rarely tuned to anything else if Volleyball is on, but I love it all!

Your new challenge is Olympic in nature and stamina!

First, please create a new Olympic event. It should be an event that is primarily human in nature (Please don't create a new equestrian event). You should describe briefly the name of your event and how it is performed.

Second, tell me who the first gold-medalist is for your even, and what country they represent. Don't fall back on existing athletes. They have enough to do!

Lastly, create the headline for the newspapers reporting on the premier playing of your event. Just the headline. You don't need to write the whole article. Literary devices common to papers should be considered.

I will award Gold, Silver, and Bronze in this challenge, but only Gold moves on to create the next challenge! Let the games begin!

Jousting Jingle

My brain is a little fried lately because of being in the middle of a move and all that entails, and speaking in church today, so I'm going to make this a simple game. I want you to write a "jingle" for Word Joust. Basically, that's an advertisement for the game, written in jingle form. Need an example? How about "A sprinkle a day, helps keep odor away! Have you had your sprinkle today?", or "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun." :) Happy jingling!

Tact or Fiction

I thought of this just a few minutes ago, and also realized I had yet to start a new game! So here goes....

Following the theme of the above picture, your mission is three-fold:
1) Come up with an embarrassing situation you either have, or could find yourself in (i.e., your best friend's parent accidentally opens the door to the bathroom just as you are stepping into the shower after spending the night.... what? That never happened to you? Fine, then you can't use that one!)
2) Come up with a tactful way of resolving the situation.
3) Come up with the SARCASTIC way to handle it.

As always, literary devices earn bonus points, but the one that has me gasping for breath while shooting milk out of my nose wins! (That wasn't me, but I CAUSED it!)

Happy Jousting!

LOL Cats

I don't know how many of you have seen the "LOL Cats" website, but they have some very cute pictures with funny captions. Your task for this game is to come up with a caption for any or all of the photos below. Creativity earns extra points. :) The pictures are, from top to bottom, numbered respectively 1,2,3.

WORD VERIFICATION- OOSUP

I was looking at some old Word Joust games trying to find an idea for a game and decided that we should do a word verification for our next game.  I wrote down several actual word verifications from the comment section of a blog and here's the one I chose:  oosup.  Your challenge for this game is to come up with a meaning description for oosup and then use it in a sentence.  You may submit as many entries as you like.  Have fun!

Those New-Fangled Thing-a-ma-bobs.....

I am sending this post from the iPad my school gave me. As such, I have a harder time making this work. It is very convenient, but now I can't seem to do anything without it, and since the technology is still advancing, I can't do anything WITH it, either!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to come up with a new gadget, App, or invention. Tell us what it looks like, what it does, and the best name for marketing it. Points for literary tools used in your description. Basically, this is your advertising pitch.

Good luck, because as far as I know, this thing could easily self-destruct in five seconds!

THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE

The big thing in the news nowdays is the Presidential race. The Republican Party has more than enough candidates but because there are so many, some need to drop out. Since all of these candidates could use a little "boost" to their campaigns, for our next Word Joust competition it is your challenge to pick your favorite candidate - wait, that's not your challenge! :0) - Pick your candidate of choice and write a "cheer" for him. Yes, that's right, our candidates need some old fashioned cheerleaders cheering for them! This game is not restricted solely to the Republican party. If your candidate is Obama, may God have mercy on your soul.  Just kidding, if your candidate is Obama, write one about him.  Please include your candidate's first or last name in your cheer, so we know who you are cheering for!  Have fun!

NEW YEAR'S POT LUCK

This is a choose-your-own entry to the theme of New Year's Resolutions. Take one of your resolutions - or more, if you wish - and tell us about it in a creative way. (Don't procrastinate, I am probably not going to let this go longer than a week.)
