Quotable Quotes

There are millions of quotes in the world regarding every possible topic. For example, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Or the more popular government version, "If it ain't broke, fix it till it is." Without using quotes from our family, (ie, Mom and Dad) give the most creative saying you can find, or invent. The most memorable/creative wins.

  1. My husband loves this Terry Pratchett quote:

"Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Light a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life."

If that doesn't give you an idea of what my sense of humor is like, I don't know what will.

  2. Ha ha Fromagette, I love that! :D

This quote I heard in a movie...can't remember the name. It had Tom Selleck in it...about China. Anyway, here is the quote that I always find myself using:

"The ox is slow, but the earth is patient."

  3. I will probably post again, but I wanted to share this one that I have carried in either a wallet or planner for years: "Whether you believe you can, or believe you cannot, you are right." I believe it was Henry Ford who said it.

  4. Ok, Fromagette, this is for you. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and he'll spend thousands of dollars on equipment and days on end away from home.

  7. We can either invent one, or quote someone else, but we aren't allowed to quote our parents. :)

  15. I stole this from someone on Facebook, so I am not sure of the author. I assume they borrowed it from somewhere else. :)

"Your life is your garden, your thoughts are your seeds, if your life isn't awesome, you've been watering the weeds."

  16. The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane. - Marcus Aurelius

I use this on my e-mail account and it is posted behind my desk at work with an "I voted" sticker on it. (ahem)

  18. This is not a funny quote, but has been such a powerful one for me. I have seen it in movies and in print. Marianne Williamson said,

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."

This is the opening of a very powerful statement in her book. Read the whole thing, but that part gives me chills.

  19. I'm not sure who said it but I'm going to put this on my blog soon. "No one can be you as well as you can" I had some more but I can't remember them. I guess they weren't very quotable!

  20. "When we forgive evil we do not excuse it, we do not tolerate it, we do not smother it. We look evil full in the face, call it what it is, let its horror shock and stun and enrage us, and only then do we forgive it."
    - Lewis B. Smedes

  24. This seemed appropriate for today (my first day of school). After Mr. Holland's wife tells him she made $32 today, he replies:

"Bid deal, I made 32 kids sleep with their eyes open."

  25. I'm going to call this one. I think it could go on forever. I'm declaring Fromagette the winner for her entry on August 9th. I like the humor in this one along with the double meaning that can be more serious.
